What is Drulatan Eye Drop?
Drulatan Eye Drop is a sterile ophthalmic solution formulated with Latanoprost (0.005%). It is a prostaglandin analogue used primarily to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). This medication is essential for individuals diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension, as high pressure within the eye can lead to vision loss if left untreated.
How Drulatan Works
The active ingredient, Latanoprost, works by increasing the natural outflow of fluid (aqueous humor) from the eye through the uveoscleral pathway. By facilitating this drainage, Drulatan helps maintain a healthy pressure level within the eye, protecting the optic nerve.
Usage and Administration
Drulatan is typically prescribed as one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily. For the best results, it is often recommended to administer the drops in the evening. It is important to follow the specific instructions provided by your eye specialist or pharmacist. If you use other eye drops, wait at least five minutes between applications.
Important Storage Instructions
To maintain the efficacy of Drulatan, store unopened bottles in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Once the bottle is opened, it can be stored at room temperature (below 30°C) but must be protected from light and moisture. Any remaining solution should be discarded 28 days after opening.
Manufacturer and Quality
Drulatan is manufactured by Drugfield Pharmaceuticals Limited, a leading pharmaceutical company in Nigeria. It is registered with NAFDAC (Reg. No. 04-7828), ensuring it meets the required safety and quality standards for ophthalmic products.
