ACME Artesunate Injection 120mg is a potent, water-soluble antimalarial medication used for the emergency treatment of severe and complicated malaria. Manufactured by Acme Formulation Pvt. Ltd., this product is specifically designed to rapidly reduce the parasite load in patients suffering from Plasmodium falciparum infection, especially when oral medication cannot be tolerated.
Indications and Use
This injection is indicated for:
- Severe malaria (including cerebral malaria).
- Cases with multi-organ failure.
- Patients unable to take oral antimalarials.
As a fast-acting artemisinin derivative, it provides rapid relief and is often the first line of defense in hospital settings across Nigeria.
Reconstitution and Administration
ACME Artesunate is supplied as a dry powder in a "combipack" containing:
- One vial of Artesunate 120mg.
- One ampoule of 5% Sodium Bicarbonate.
- One ampoule of 0.9% Sodium Chloride (Saline).
Important: This medication must be reconstituted by a healthcare professional and can be administered via Intravenous (IV) or Intramuscular (IM) injection. It is strictly for hospital use.
Recommended Dosage
The treatment protocol typically involves an initial series of injections at 0, 12, and 24 hours, followed by once-daily doses.
- Adults: 2.4 mg/kg per dose.
- Children (<20kg): 3.0 mg/kg per dose.
- Children (>20kg): 2.4 mg/kg per dose.
Once the patient is stable and able to swallow, the treatment is usually completed with a full course of an oral Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT).
Safety and Precautions
While effective, patients should be monitored for side effects such as dizziness or delayed hemolysis. Always consult your doctor or a GoMed pharmacist if you have questions about antimalarial treatments in Nigeria.
